Transfer file to vm virtualbox8/31/2023 Specific instructions and a list of supported guest OSes can be found here. Guest additions are supported on recent-ish versions of most operating systems. This is the preferred method if you've installed the guest additions for your VirtualBox guest. Transferring files with guest additions (easiest) If there are any other methods you would suggest, please let me know. It took a while to figure out that I should be using ip.I found that there isn't a lot of information out there about how to transfer files into and out of a VirtualBox guest OS, so here is a tutorial I made. PS I've had all kinds of fun adventures while doing this, for instance being utterly confused as to why ipconfig was not installed. I'm still working on this, any advice would be appreciated. So I started following these instructions: Half way through, I realized that I didn't have sshd installed on the guest, so I attempted to do that, but apparently creating the local only network adapter broke internet access for the guest OS! and rebooting.Įventually, I decided maybe a network transfer would work instead. It seemed to run without problems, but drag and drop didn't work even after enabling bi-directional drag and copy-paste, etc. I followed instructions to install guest-extensions, or whatever it was called, but the run-script wouldn't execute (I think it didn't have execute permission or something, but was also read only, so I couldn't fix it) so I copied the script to the home folder, and executed it there. My first attempt was by using drag and drop. My host is archlinux, my guest is debian (which I'm not very familiar with).
